Junior Year
Bisbee Poetry Retreat, 2022. Designed for my 301 studio with Teresa Rosano, this project revitalizes the historic bakery ruins of Bisbee, Arizona, transforming the site into a cultural hub that honors history and fosters creativity. The preserved graffiti-covered walls of the burnt-out bakery house a café and stage, celebrating the site’s heritage as both a 1900s bakery and a canvas of community expression. A gleaming copper roof crowns the café, paying homage to Bisbee’s mining legacy.
Visitors enter through the historic bakery, explore the café, and gather in the outdoor courtyard for poetry readings and community events. A pathway ascends to a three-story poetry library with a central oculus and frosted glass floors that diffuse light to all levels. At the summit, cozy poets’ cottages offer tranquil retreats with sweeping alpine views and a lift providing access to the main road. The surrounding green spaces encourage reflection and community, with areas for reading, walking, and gathering under trees.
This design enhances connections with the adjacent Bisbee Community Center, creating a thoughtful and inspiring space that bridges the past with the present while supporting creative and cultural pursuits.
