Film Photos of Cologne Cathedral, 2024. Visiting the Cologne Cathedral in person was an unforgettable experience. After years of studying it in architecture classes and history books, its imposing Gothic presence was awe-inspiring. The blackened exterior, a result of industrial soot buildup over centuries, gave it a haunting quality, contrasting with its original white stone facade. Capturing the cathedral’s immense scale proved challenging, as its towering spires dramatically dominated the skyline, framed by Cologne’s modern architecture. Inside, the setting sun illuminated the stained glass, creating a breathtaking display of light and color, perfect for photography. Remarkably, the cathedral remained largely untouched during WWII, preserving its historic grandeur. After exploring, my family and I relaxed at a nearby plaza, enjoying schnitzel and drinks with a stunning view of the cathedral. Captured on 35mm film, these photos celebrate the architectural and cultural richness of Cologne.
