Film Photos of the Barbican Centre, 2024. Visiting the Barbican Centre in London with my dad was a dream come true. Known for its stark Brutalist architecture in black-and-white photos, the complex came alive in person with vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and a central lake filled with water lilies. The surrounding gardens and tall trees softened the architecture, creating a warm, park-like atmosphere that felt both human and inviting. As we explored the promenades and multi-level design, we discovered charming details like the preserved London Wall and a classical church thoughtfully integrated into the project. Meeting an artist sketching on-site was a highlight; she shared her admiration for the architects’ vision and told us how it inspired her to live in a modernist housing complex herself. A favorite moment was capturing a quiet scene by the lily pad fountain, where a couple shared a peaceful moment. Seeing the Barbican Centre in person deepened my appreciation for its design, blending modernism with history and nature. Captured on 35mm film, these photos reflect its unique beauty and livability.
