During my two days in Venice, I immersed myself in Carlo Scarpa’s work, marveling at how his modernist designs blend seamlessly with the city’s classical architecture. A highlight was the Olivetti Showroom in Piazza San Marco, where Scarpa’s exquisite attention to detail shone in every element, from the staircase to the material finishes. At the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Scarpa’s ground-floor design was unforgettable. Channels allow water from the canal to flow into the building, creating a serene interplay between architecture and environment. The museum’s back garden showcased Scarpa’s intricate landscaping, while a stunning door epitomized his mastery of detail. Inside, I admired an elegant brass easel crafted specifically for a painting, simple yet rich in its artistry. I ended the day at the Biennale Gardens, where I found Scarpa’s ticket booth just as the sun was setting over the water. The fading light provided the perfect moment to capture its beauty before pausing to reflect. Scarpa’s work, from functional hinges to grand spaces, bridges modernism with timeless decoration, blending effortlessly into Venice’s historic context while offering a fresh perspective.
